Power of Play to host unique non-event

Polly Barton and Carlotta Bielfeldt, co-chairs of the Power of Play Campaign, announced today that the Campaign will NOT host a Special Event Fundraiser on Friday, February 10, 2012, and that you’re NOT invited!

This non-event event will NOT include cocktails, dinner, or entertainment. Further, invitees are encouraged NOT to spend money on a tuxedo, nice dress and new shoes, babysitting, parking, tickets, and silent auction items. Instead, they are being asked to help bring the power of play to Peoria by making a donation to the Power of Play campaign.

“Our community has so many special events and we know that our community leaders are overrun with invites that require them to spend a lot of money getting ready for a big event, rather than directly supporting the cause itself,” says Bonnie Noble, Executive Director of Parks and Recreation for the Peoria Park District, which is collaborating with both the Junior League of Peoria and Peoria Zoological Society to enhance elements of Peoria Zoo and build the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum with the goal of making Glen Oak Park a daylong destination for families in central Illinois.

“We hope that the community will instead donate funds in support of the power of play… and know that 100% of their donation is going to this great cause rather than space rental, musical entertainment, decorations and catering costs.”

For more information about this event that is NOT taking place or to NOT reserve yet another chicken dinner plate for you and a date, please call Catherine McGeehan, Development Director for Peoria Zoological Society at 681-3504 or e-mail cmcgeehan@peoriazoo.org.

About the affiliation: With support from the Peoria Park District, the Junior League of Peoria and Peoria Zoological Society have joined forces to create a daylong destination for learning through play at Glen Oak Park—building the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum and expanding Peoria Zoo. Both not-for-profit organizations are backed by engaged groups of volunteers and have a long history of collaborating with the Peoria Park District on quality projects.
