West Peoria News for January

City Hall is reminding residents of some city regulations that will continue to be in place in 2013. All residents are required to sign up for garbage service with Waste Management – 1-800-796-9696. You will be charged for this service. Landscape Waste Pickup ended on the last Friday in December. It will begin again on the first Friday in April. This service is included in your Waste Management bill. For winter storm damage limb pick-up: Please check the city website or contact City Hall for a copy of this policy. Information for Snow Routes / Parking Ban: SECTION 3-3-5 DEFINITIONS:

All streets within the corporate limits of the City of West Peoria are hereby designated as emergency snow routes. It shall be unlawful to park any vehicles on these streets at any time within twelve (12) hours after a snowfall of two (2) or more inches. Where there has been a snow forecast of two (2) or more inches for any calendar day, it shall be unlawful to park any vehicles on any of these streets for that calendar day. The Street Department Manager shall be authorized to take the necessary actions to have those vehicles parked on streets designated as snow routes in violation of the provisions of this Section towed away in order to permit the clearing of snow from the snow routes. The payment of any and all charges incurred as a result of such towing away shall be the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner. In addition to, or in lieu of towing the vehicle, the owner or lessor of the vehicle shall be fined $25.00 for first offense and $50.00 for second offense and for the third offense, the fine may be up to a maximum of $750.00. In all events, each day the violation exists shall constitute a separate offense. SOURCE 94-18, 95-13, 00-28, 08-04

December 4, 2012 was the mandated date for township caucuses. The following individuals were nominated for the township positions. Supervisor: Robert DeSutter; Township Clerk, Jimmy Dillon, Trustees: Kelly Abraham, Sharon Kennedy, Jim Flynn, Marsha Miller. John Powell was nominated for tax collector. He has accepted the nomination with the stipulation that he will return the $4,200 salary and keep only $1.00 each year. The election is April 9, 2013.

Candidate news for the City of West Peoria April 9, 2013 election was not available at the time of writing this column. It will be available in the January column.

Someone from State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth is in City Hall on the first Friday of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Residents are encouraged to stop by and ask questions or share concerns about issues impacting the 92nd Legislative District or the state of Illinois.

The West Peoria Library has found a new home at 206 Bergan St. The new location still needs some cleaning and remodeling before it can open in early 2013. Questions about the library can be directed to Emily Huff at 453-8139 or westpeorialibrary@yahoo.com. The West Peoria Library also has a page on Facebook where you can stay updated on its progress.

The West Peoria Neighborhood Watch meeting is scheduled for January 9, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The guest speaker is U.S. Marshal Middlemas. The West Peoria Residents Association will host their monthly membership meeting at City Hall from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Plan on attending and feel free to bring a guest.
