Political caucuses for the Republican and Democratic parties were held on the evening of Dec. 6 for the upcoming township elections on April 8. The following will be running for office on April 8: Township supervisor, Sharon Kennedy; township clerk, Matt Dillon; township trustees, Jim Flynn, John Powell, Clark Abraham, Cindy Volk and Keith Morrell with four of the six to be elected. Matt Dillon took on duties of the township clerk at the January meeting and Clark Abraham assumed the duties of trustee when Matt Dillon became town clerk.

Long-time township supervisor, Robert DeSutter, decided to retire at the completion of his 16th year as supervisor. Jimmy Dillon resigned his town clerk position due to his move from West Peoria Township. Matt Dillon was appointed by the township board to the duties of township clerk. The township board then appointed Clark Abraham to fill out Matt’s term. Trustee Abraham has been attending township meetings for several months since his return to West Peoria.

Aimee Shinall, victim services coordinator for the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office was the guest speaker at the West Peoria January Neighborhood Watch meeting. Her presentation “Don’t Get Scammed” was beneficial for all who attended. Some of her advice: Beware of IRS calls (the IRS does not call); beware of a call to bail a relative out of jail; beware of calls about infected PC’s that the caller can repair for a fee. The best way to avoid telephone scams is to just hang up. The group’s next meeting will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at City Hall. The public, as always, is welcome.
