Would you like to spend time with two of the bright young people in West Peoria? Take the time at 6 p.m. May 17 to attend the West Peoria Residents Meeting in City Hall and hear Troop 11’s latest Eagle Scouts speak. Troop 11 continues to turn out Eagle Scouts that we can recognize as the best of the best. Patrick Menke and Gabe Parry will be guest speakers that evening. All are welcome to attend.

The West Peoria Neighborhood Watch will meet 6 p.m. May 9 at City Hall with a program about recognizing and avoiding the latest criminal scams, especially “Home Improvement Scams.”

The Beautification Committee has projects on the agenda for the upcoming warm season including planting flowers at Sterling and Rohmann, filling planters to be placed at businesses and the Welcome Wall, painting the welcome signs and painting other small painting projects. The Western Ave. Greenway has 8’x10’ garden plots available for neighbors to rent. The soil will be amended and water provided during this planting year. Call: Martha Willi, at 309 674-4500 to ask about Greenway Gardens.

Recently Maggie Moore announced her retirement from the many community activities she has done over the years. My respect and thanks go out to Maggie for her continuing dedication and work for our community. West Peoria Residents Association needs someone to assume Maggie’s community contributions. WPRA is sponsoring a community wide yard sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19. For more information call Maggie at 673-0535.

West Peoria will observe Memorial Day with a service at 10 a.m. May 26 in Franciscan Park at the corner of Heading and Sterling.
