Walk’s 25th anniversary helps literacy awareness and local programs

Common Place’s 25th Anniversary for their Walk for Reading will be on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Common Place, 514 S. Shelley Street.  With International Literacy Day on September 8, the Walk for Reading not only helps to make aware of the growing need of literacy programs, but also benefits Common Place’s after school programs, youth tutor, adult literacy, summer youth programs, and family reading programs.  The goal is to raise $30,000.

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., with the Walk starting at 8:30 a.m.  Registration is $25 for individual and $35 for family.  Sponsorships are encouraged, as well as team participation.  Registration forms and sponsor sheets are available online: www.commonplacepeoria.org.

Festivities following the Walk will include: a free brunch for walk participants and volunteers, and awarding of prizes for individuals and team with the most sponsorship dollars.

Common Place Family Learning Center is a social service organization focusing on literacy, and is located on Peoria’s South Side.  Common Place offers after school tutoring and enrichment activities for children grades K – 12, summer tutoring for grades K – 12, summer youth programs for children ages 8 – 15 years, adult one-on-one tutoring and small reading and math group classes, and GED study.
