Computer Tech Tips

was recently reminded of the time, when I was driving my daughters and their friends up Springfield Road to Fondulac Park. On our way we saw a man struggling to ride his bike up the hill.  With no traffic, I slowed down to cheer him on. The kids joined in. The man smiled and “dug deep” as they say, and actually did make it up that steep hill! Years later, I saw one of the boys that was in the car that day who reminded me of that story. I laughed and said, “Yes, I remember that guy laughing at us but he made it.” The boy said, “You were always a cheerleader.”

I’m trying to keep that same challenge of encouraging people to not give up – but this time with Computers. Believe it or not, computers make our lives much easier. Oh sure they can be frustrating at times because there is so much to be done and sometimes the computer refuses to cooperate.  No matter what your user level is, computers can be exasperating.

Hopefully, these articles will give you hope of becoming a computer super-user or at the least comfortable with your keyboard. Here are a few website links to help you along:

Download.com – http://download.com/ – This website will provide free and safe software for many of your day-to-day activities including LogMeIn, a free software program that you can install on your computer which will allow you to login to your computer from anywhere. This is very handy for travelers or road warriors.

Mashable – http://mashable.com/ – If you want to find out what’s happening on the Internet, this site is for you! There is much more information than you need, but it’s easy to pick through.

YouTube – http://youtube.com – Do you want to know how to install laminate flooring or how about the best way to cook fish on the grill?  This site is will show you a how-to video on just about any topic. It’s a great resource of just a fun time waster for watching talking dog videos. I recommend the Ultimate Dog Tease video. Just search for it in the handy search option on the site.

I look forward to cheering you on with your computer and helping you with a variety of tasks and topics. Feel free to email me at: tfinch@webservicesinc.net with any subjects or questions you may have or just watch this space.
