Friends of Rocky Glen will benefit from a fund-raiser from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 at the John S. Rhodell Brewery, 619 S.W. Water Street, Peoria.
Donations will be welcome.
The event includes free snacks, a slide show on Rocky Glen and a 6:00 p.m. presentation by Illinois Central College professor and geologist Ed Stermer on this unique geological and historic site off Kickapoo Creek Road. It contains waterfalls, 19th century petroglyphs, remnants of century-old coal mines, native plants and ancient rock formations.
The not-for-profit group Friends of Rocky Glen aims to purchase the site from a private owner and donate it to a public entity. All proceeds from the fund-raiser will be used for this purpose.
T-shirts and books on Rocky Glen will be available. Rhodell’s will be open to the public during the event, and everyone is welcome.
