West Peoria News for January 2014

Remember that landscape waste pickup has ended for the season and will return in April.
All streets within West Peoria are designated as emergency snow routes. It is unlawful to park any vehicles on city streets anytime within 12 hours after a snowfall of two or more inches.
If there has been a snow forecast of two or more inches for any calendar day, it is unlawful to park any vehicles on any of these streets for that calendar day. The street department manager is authorized to have those vehicles parked on snow routes towed away in order to permit the clearing of snow and ice from the snow routes.
The payment of all the charges for towing shall be the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner. In addition to, or in lieu of, towing the vehicle, the owner or lessor of the vehicle shall be fined $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second offense and for the third offense, the fine may go to a maximum of $750. Each day the violation exists shall constitute a separate offense.
The Zoning Board of Appeals is short a member. They meet on an as-needed basis to consider zoning requests. The Plan Commission also needs another member. They meet the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Interested people may contact Clark Carole Stephens at Cìty Hall or 674-1993.
Following a discussion at the Township’s December meeting regarding the resolution to turn over the responsibility of collecting real estate taxes to Peoria County, the Township Trustees will be considering that idea at their next meeting at 7:30 p.m. January 13 in the Township Hall next to City Hall on Rohmann Avenue. Few townships in Illinois have township tax collectors, it was said. Supporters of the idea say passing the resolution would save taxpayers a small amount of dollars as well as the bond that the township carries for the position.
The West Peoria Neighborhood Watch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. January 8 at City Hall. The speaker will be Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Buckley, who will share information about working with the Canine Division. All West Peoria residents are invited to attend.
Once again in December, our Cub Scouts, leaders and families toured our community to sing carols in very COLD weather. Thanks to all for their continued efforts for and from all of us.
