In a hurry? Can’t stay and craft? Get your crafts to go.  Kids ages 5 through 12 can pick up a craft packet at the 1st Information Desk any time we’re open. Ask for a Craft-to-Go, take it home and the fun begins. While supplies last.

Grade School Read-Aloud – 4:30-5:00 p.m.

Even kids who can read independently can still enjoy being read to!  Join us for a story time designed especially for grade schoolers who are ready to listen to a longer chapter book, and don’t need many pictures.    We’ll be reading the same book on two different days, so there’s plenty of time to catch up.  This month, we’re finishing The Westing Game and starting From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, the 1968 Newbery Medal winner by E.L. Konigsburg.

 

Monday, June 2 – Lakeview Branch

Each month at the Lakeview Branch there will be a program centered around STEAM! If you like Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, then this is the program for you! Grades 3 to 5.

Does your child struggle with the basics of math? Lincoln Branch Front & Center is offering math tutoring to students in grades 2 through 6. This program will provide resources to enhance basic concepts of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division and Fractions.

Book Tasting for 1st – 4th Grade– 1:00-1:45 p.m.

Are you looking for some new books to read for Summer Reading? Attend our Book Tasting to discover new books to keep you reading this summer. At our June session we’ll focus on animal books to get you in the spirit of our PAWS to Read Summer Reading theme! Upon arrival you’ll receive a book menu with titles of the books we’ll be sampling. You’ll spend two minutes with each book and rate your book on the menu. At the end you’ll review your menu and pick out a book from your higher ratings. Each child should leave with at least one book they find particularly interesting.

Front & Center: Sand Art Designs – 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Join us for this colorful fun activity as we create sand art designs in a bottle. Ages 6 to 12. While supplies last.

Let’s Make Butter Storytime – 11:00-11:45 a.m.

Have you ever wondered where butter comes from? Did you know that cows not only produce milk but a heavy cream as well? Come to this special storytime where we’ll read books about our favorite farm animal –  cows –  and make some of our own homemade butter. Ages 4-9.

Mother and Daughter Slumber Party – 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Mothers and daughters are invited to a slumber party at the library! We’ll paint nails, decorate flip flops, and make our own spa goodies. Graphic Novel Workshop – 2:30-3:15 p.m.

Have you ever thought you could write and draw a graphic novel yourself, but aren’t sure where to get started? Bring your ideas to our third annual Graphic Novel Workshop! During the first week we’ll guide you through storylines and characters; during the second week we’ll discuss dialog, thoughts, action, and splash pages; and during the third week we’ll help you put all the elements that make a great graphic novel together for a final product. Ages 10 to 16.

Drop in between 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. to participate in our Summer Reading Read-A-Thon. For three hours you’ll have the chance to read your favorite book or pick up a new one from our shelves. Games and activities will be sprinkled throughout the program. Come when you can, stay as long as you’re able, count it for Summer Reading hours. Ages 9-17

Have you ever wished you had your own personal technology guru to help you? Schedule a “1 to 1 Tech Help” session at the library! You pick a half hour time slot that works with your schedule and provide some information about computer or device question you would like help with. At the meeting, a librarian will be ready to help and focus on you. Drop in or call the Lincoln Branch to schedule your session in advance.

Pets and Paws Fun Booklet – 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

It’s Summertime and the activity booklets are back. Stop at the 2nd Floor Information Desk and pick up a Pets and Paws Fun Booklet. Each month there will be a booklet designed especially for 4 – 7 year olds and also one for those 8 – 12 years old. If you finish all the activities in the booklet, you will be eligible for a prize. Just bring in your finished booklet to the 2nd Floor Information Desk, show it to the librarian and receive your prize. While supplies last.

Chris Vallillo: Abraham Lincoln in Song – 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Kick off the “Lincoln The Constitution and The Civil War” exhibit with award-winning folksinger Chris Vallillo who uses contemporary folk music, and period folk songs to shed light on one of history’s most beloved figures — not only as a remarkable leader, but as a man — who knew and loved many of these very songs himself. Abraham Lincoln in Song has been endorsed by the National Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and the Commissions of Illinois, Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Chris will have CDs available for purchase with 20% going to our Friends of the Library. This program is appropriate for all ages.  Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War, a traveling exhibition for libraries, was organized by the National Constitution Center and the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The traveling exhibition has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War is based on an exhibition of the same name developed by the National Constitution Center.

Join us for our second annual Robomania event. This exciting hands-on event, organized by area high school FIRST Robotics teams, is sure to spark your child’s scientific imagination. Come build robots, compete in mini LEGO® robot competition, operate a Frisbee and basketball-shooting robots, see and try your hand at science exhibits and much, much more!

Blind Date with a Book – All Day

Are you looking to find the right book for you, but always seem to pick the wrong one? Our Blind Date books are wrapped so you’ll be surprised by what type of book you take home with you. Your book may let you down, but there’s a chance you’ll really enjoy your selection and it may even be a book you never would have thought to try otherwise. If you feel really strongly about your book feel free to fill out the included Rate Your Date card and return it to us. Books will be on display and color coded for reading level. Books will be available for reading levels 1st grade through adult.

The Anthropology of Dogs – 2:00-3:00 p.m.

From wolves on the edges of human settlements to furry friends at the center of our homes, dogs have come a long way. Learn about the ancient history of the domestic dog, with archaeologist Kelsey Noack Myers, M.A., RPA, and hear about her current research on Native American dogs in the Midwest.

Genre Ticket Challenge

Do you find yourself reading the same types of books every single time?  Take our Genre Ticket Challenge!  Stop by any location to pick up a book of genre tickets and a reading log.  For each book you read that fits a specific genre ticket, turn in your ticket in raffle jars at any location to be entered into a Branch Drawing to win a prize pack.  Get your reading log stamped when you turn in your ticket plus you can count this for Summer Reading hours, too! If you read a book from every genre and turn in your completed log, you will be entered into a Grand Drawing for a Barnes & Noble gift card.  Ages 7 to 18.

Stuffed Animal Slumber Party

Calling all stuffed animals! Is your favorite stuffed animal or doll ready to go to a slumber party on their own? Bring your stuffed toys to Lakeview anytime between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday for a slumber party with other stuffed animals. On Wednesday stop in anytime before 5:30 p.m. to pick up your animal, make and take a  craft in the Storytime Room, and take home a couple of pictures of the fun your animal had at the slumber party. All pictures of our overnight will be displayed on www.peoriapubliclibrary.org Wednesday evening.

Have you ever seen a dog dance?  Here is your chance!  The Barking Ballroom will be performing the creative sport known as Canine Musical Freestyle or “dancing with dogs!”  These dogs are obedience trained, vaccinated, and have the “Canine Good Citizen” certificate.  This is sure to be a fun and entertaining afternoon! The owls from the library have left us their pellets to dissect. Learn what barn owls eat and how their digestive tract works during this hands-on discovery session. There are a limited number of pellets, so please register to ensure your spot. 497-2200

Stuffed Animal Sleepover – 5:00-5:30 p.m.

Your stuffed animal has a chance to come to a Storytime with you in the Beehive at 5:00 p.m. Friday and then stay overnight  in the library for a slumber party! Your fuzzy friends will get to stay up late to tour the bookmobile, watch a movie, read books and have all sorts of fun. Saturday morning your little buddy will be waiting for you – just ask someone at the Self Check Out desk – anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Board Game Saturday – 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Do you like board games? Monopoly, Battleship, or Apples to Apples? Then grab some friends and join us for Board Game Saturdays. This series is from 1-4 p.m. in the Beehive at North Branch! The library will supply the games, but if you have a favorite please bring it along. Drop in for a round or an entire game!
