Central planners are failing again with Common Core

The inherent flaws of central planning include a lack of information and the absence of communication with the intended victims.
We are observing this scenario play out again as the wheels fall off of the Common Core Motorcade.
The National Governors Association was one of the original sponsors of Common Core. But, now we see various governors retract their support as the public becomes aware of the deception which was built into Common Core. Gov. Mary Fallin (R) of Oklahoma has signed a bill that repeals the adoption of the Common Core standards and directs the State Board of Education to create new, more rigorous standards by August of 2016.
The state will revert to the Oklahoma Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) standards, in use from 2003 to 2010, until new standards are developed.
The governor went on to say: Unfortunately, federal overreach has tainted Common Core. President Obama and Washington bureaucrats have usurped Common Core in an attempt to influence state education standards. The results are predictable. What should have been a bipartisan policy is now widely regarded as the President’s plan to establish federal control of curricula, testing and teaching strategies. We cannot ignore the widespread concern of citizens, parents, educators and legislators who have expressed fear that adopting Common Core gives up local control of Oklahoma’s public schools.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has called on the next legislature to repeal Common Core and replace it with standards “set by people in Wisconsin.”
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called on the Legislature to roll back Common Core and to come up with its own “Louisiana standards and a Louisiana test” to replace the academic standards.
A recent poll, from MSNBC/Wall Street Journal, finds 47 percent of Americans have still never heard of Common Core.
The central planners’ plight will grow as the 47 percent become alert to the treachery of Common Core.
Illinois lags behind in this struggle, but there is still time to call on State Representatives and Senators to stop this planned debacle.
