Been ‘Buked and Scorned

By Burton Raabe

‘Buked and scorned,
stripped naked by soldiers,
ridiculed and imprisoned.
The mob clamored for his blood.
He is the eternal scapegoat.
He is the One.

Time loops back upon itself.
This story is played out over and over.
Time must not have a stop.

Universes parallel are here now
like a series of mirrors
where distorted images
act out the same stories.

In one universe,
I am a soldier; in another, the mob.
In one I am Christ,
another a thief.

It is the story, the template we remember.
There are other names.
Tecumseh, Crazy Horse, Sacco and Vanzetti,
Joe Hill, John Brown, Emmett Till,
Dr. King, Troy Davis, Julius and Ethel, Chelsea Manning.
