Peorians will take part in the Citizen Police Academy starting this month, when residents will meet from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday from June 3-July 29 to get a better understanding of police operations and to provide a forum for police officers and residents to interact in an informal setting.

Topics include CrimeView mapping; a tour of the Emergency Communications Center; traffic & patrol; a neighborhood tour with resident police officers; preventing scams; women in policing; crime scene investigation; the Don’t Shoot initiative; K9 Unit; and Neighborhood Nuisance Abatement.

Thirty people are expected to participate, according to City Neighborhood Development Specialist Steve Fairbanks.

Moss Avenue Antique Sale & Festival The Moss Bradley Residential Association is sponsoring its 35th annual Moss Avenue sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13. More than 100 vendors are expected to line both sides of the street.

The Renaissance Park Community Association has new officers Its new board is made up of President Nick Viera, Vice President Joshua Stonewall, Secretary Justine Gasper, and Treasurer Per Ellingson. RPCA in May planted its garden on West Main Street, with tomatoes, eggplants, greens, peppers, herbs and strawberries, and scheduled its June meeting for 4 p.m. Sunday, June 7, when the group will discuss street cleaning along West Main.

The Southside Community United for Change (SCUC) Community Sale is set for June 12-13, according to Diane Jackson of the New Town Neighborhood Association, one of seven neighborhood organizations active in SCUC. The event is planned to occur along Western Avenue on the South Side and surrounding neighborhoods.

The Peoria Community Against Violence group plans various Peace Walks throughout the Peoria area where criminal activity is known to happen. Meeting at a designated area and walking that neighborhood for about an hour, this month’s events are set for June 12 at the East Bluff Community Center (512 E. Kansas Ave.) and June 26 at Proctor Center (309 South DuSable St.).For details on the Peace Walks or PCAV, contact Krista Coleman 494-8233 or Kcoleman@peoriagov.org.
