Last month, Community Word wrote about negotiations between GateHouse Media (New Media) and the Springfield State Journal-Register United Media Guild representing newsroom employees.
Since that article ran, GateHouse released its 2015 annual proxy statement listing CEO Kirk Davis receiving a base salary of $500,000 plus a $600,000 bonus and $1 million in stock “awards.”
His base pay went up 1 percent from 2014 to 2015 but his bonus went up 50 percent.
Meanwhile, the 25 newsroom employees at the State Journal-Register have not received a pay increase in more than eight years.
The contract at the Peoria Journal Star, also owned by GateHouse, expires April 1, 2017. Since GateHouse purchased the Journal Star in 2007, it has eliminated more than 60 percent of newsroom jobs, cut the size of the paper and reduced community coverage.
