The Peoria Park District’s Board of Trustees will dedicate the restored Robert Ingersoll statue at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 in lower Glen Oak Park where the statue has been located since 1911.
Ingersoll was an orator, statesman, free thinker and attorney general of Illinois. The bronze statue of Ingersoll as created by Fritz Triebel. The statue was recently restored by Laran Bronze Foundry and Otto Baum Construction Co. The restoration was funded by contributions from Freedom from Religion Foundation, The Robert Green Ingersoll Memorial Committee, Peoria Secular Humanist Society and several private donors.
