Mika’s Bistro in Eureka and Henry’s Farm in Congerville are collaborating to host a special farm-to-table harvest supper featuring chef-prepared food from local farms. The dinner will include a five-course meal with fresh, organic ingredients from Henry’s Farm and Legacy of the Land family farms in the Fairbury area.
The dinner is 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at Mika’s Bistro, 112 S. Main St., Eureka. Seating is limited and pre-paid reservations are required.
Organizers expect the dinner will become an annual event.
Mika’s chef Ruth Moser has cooked in hotels around the country and in Switzerland. She is planning the five-course menu to showcase the quality and variety of foods produced by central Illinois farmers.
“The fall harvest is a time of great abundance, and our team will celebrate that abundance by preparing and serving our guests a full harvest supper with soup, salad, sorbet, entree, and dessert, all using ingredients fresh from local farms,” Moser said.
Each course will include seasonal ingredients ranging from fall salad greens and cooking greens to root crops, fall fruits and winter squashes. Local meats will also be featured. The menu is posted on Mika’s Facebook page.
Central Illinois has seen a steady increase in the number of farmers raising fruit, vegetables, meats, eggs and grains for local families. High-end Chicago chefs have been using central Illinois farm products for many years. Now those same farmers’ products are available each week on the regular menu at Mika’s Bistro. Weekly deliveries to Mika’s come from Legacy of the Land, a collection of independent family farms straddling Woodford, McLean, Livingston and DeWitt counties, and Henry’s Farm where Henry Brockman and his family raise over 600 varieties of vegetables in the fertile bottomland of the Mackinaw River Valley near Congerville.
For more information and reservations, call Mika’s Bistro before Oct. 17 at 309-467-2252. Cost is $29 per person or $27 per person for groups of two or more ($54 per couple) plus tax and tip.
