West Peoria Neighborhood Watch is hosting its 17th annual Night Out Against Crime 3 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Franciscan Park. Kids are encouraged to bring their bicycles to be inspected and take a test ride through an obstacle course designed to teach bicycle safety. The event is sponsored by the Travelers Protective Agency. Upon completion, participants receive a ticket for a bicycle drawing. Also available will be an armored vehicle, fire engine and ambulance to view and inspect. Fun includes games, face painting, music, sno-cones, hot dogs and gate prizes.
The West Peoria Residents’ Association will meet 6 p.m. Aug. 17 in City Hall. The Beautification Committee is keeping watch for the most improved lawn and will present the Beauty Award at the Club’s September meeting.

The City of West Peoria has made improvements to sidewalks in the city over past years. Most recently sidewalk improvements can be seen on West Barker and Ashland Avenues. Property owners in need of sidewalk improvements are invited to submit completed petitions for the sidewalk improvement program by Sept. 1. For more information call City Hall at 674-1993.
The recent Fourth of July Parade had 110 entries. Trophies were awarded for: Best of Show, Kenny’s Westside Pub; Best Service Organization, TRAIN team; Most Patriotic, Peoria Navy/Marine Club; Best Juvenile, Kuk Sool Won of Peoria. Grand Marshal for this year’s event was Leroy Dohm Jr.
