Trick-or-treat hours in West Peoria are 5-8 p.m. All trick-or-treating children should be back in their homes by 8 p.m. Kids should carry flashlights and go only to houses with porch lights turned on and not enter strange homes or cars. This can be a special night for our kids. Parents go with them for their safety and your enjoyment.

Lt. James Middlemas, Peoria County Sheriff’s Officer, will be guest speaker at the West Peoria Neighborhood Watch meeting 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at West Peoria City Hall. Aimee Shinall, Victim Service Coordinator with the Sheriff’s Department, will be the presenter 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at the West Peoria Resident’s Association meeting.

“As the Page Turns” book club meeting will feature “Whiskey Row” written by Book’Em Mystery Readers. Whiskey Row, a fictional story using Peoria as the locale, was written by a mystery discussion group from Peoria. The book club meets at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. “Seniors on the Go” meet 1 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month. Seniors, retirees, friends and neighbors are encouraged to attend. The October meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 26. More information can be obtained from Maggie Moore, 673-0535, or Loretta Fehl, 637-0326.

The Firefighter’s Annual Hog Roast Dinner will be 2-6 p.m. Oct. 29. This is the firefighters’ major fund raiser of the year. Members will be going door-to-door selling tickets in advance. If you are unable to attend the event, you can turn your tickets into the firehouse in a spot they provide for this. Just provide your personal information on the back of them. These are the volunteers/residents who dedicate hundreds of hours for the safety of our community and its members each year. If you are interested in joining and want to learn more, contact Chief Terry Schadt at 674-6615 or stop by the firehouse during drill time 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays or 10 a.m.-noon Sundays. The Ladies Auxiliary is looking for members to join its organization. It provides support during emergencies and training exercises as a critical part of the department.
