These candidates in the City of West Peoria are currently running for office in the April 6 city council election: Ward 1, LeRoy Dohm, Jr.; Ward 2, Merlin “Rocky” Mathewson; Ward 3, John F. Siewert II and Clark Abraham; Ward 4, James E Silver.
Polling places are: Wards 1 and 2 in the City Garage: Wards 3 and 4 in the Franciscan Recreation Center with voting hours 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
West Peoria Township will be dissolved this May 2021 when all information from April has been completed and submitted. This is the result of the November 2020 election when citizens voted to dissolve the township government with the City of West Peoria assuming the township’s responsibilities for the citizens of West Peoria.
Boy Scout 11 scouts are again selling 30 gallon trash bags 100 for $18. You may order by contacting any Troop 11 scout or calling Robert DeSutter, long-term scoutmaster, at (309) 369-8078 with delivery the last week in April.
With springtime approaching, the City of West Peoria is refreshing your thinking about some of its regulations. All grass in yards needs to be maintained below 9 inches. Stored limbs and logs should be stored 8 inches off the ground to keep rodents from living in them. Do not use plastic bags or boxes for garbage. Trash containers are not to be stored in front yards. Clean Up Day was postponed in 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions.The City wants to learn your interest in making a Clean Up Initiative a year-round effort. The Public Safety Committee would like to form a Clean Up Initiative and has scheduled a meeting 6:30 p.m. April 21 in City Hall and would like to hear your ideas. Upcoming construction work is planned. Currently work focuses on sidewalk construction on Cedar between Manor parkway and Moss. Later in the year parts of Ardmore and Sterling between Rohmann and Kenwood will be done.
There is no Neighborhood Crime Watch planned for April but one is anticipated for May.
