The City of West Peoria has recently acquired 2421 W. Rohmann Ave. as the future location of City Hall. The building, previously occupied by Busey Bank, is currently displaying a banner announcing the transition. City officials are currently in the planning phase of renovating the building to create a modern and accessible facility for conducting city business. This new City Hall represents the city’s commitment to progress and growth.
RIDE TO THE ZOO
During August, CityLink and the Peoria Zoo are partnering to offer free entry to CityLink, CityLift, and CountyLink passengers who present a bus pass or ticket for one of these services. Visitors can enjoy free general entry to the Peoria Zoo and its exhibits by showing their bus pass/ticket at the admission desk. One bus pass/ticket is required per adult, but this promotion does not include giraffe or budgie feedings.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Boy Scout Troop 11 is hosting its annual Ice Cream Social from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 17 at the West Peoria Fire Station, located at 406 N. Waverly Ave. Attendees can enjoy a variety of ice cream flavors and refreshments. A donation of $3 per person is requested, but all are welcome to attend. This event is an excellent opportunity to support the Boy Scouts while indulging in a delicious ice cream treat.
SENIOR SLIDESHOW
Barbara Brown, a librarian at the Peoria Public Library, will be presenting a slideshow about historical events in the Peoria area at Seniors Afternoon at 1 p.m.
Aug 27. The event will be held at City Hall and is hosted by the West Peoria Neighborhood Watch. The presentation is free and open to the public.
BIG BLAZE
In June, local firefighters displayed heroism while putting out a fire at the Edgewood Apartments in West Peoria. The blaze quickly spread, engulfing the 12-apartment building located in the 2700 block of West Radan Court. While approximately 30 residents were displaced, there were no fatalities. Neighbors were able to catch two children who jumped out of a window to escape the fire, while two adults were rescued using a ladder.
To show support for the West Peoria Fire Department, individuals can participate in their weekly cash ladder drawing from 5:30-8 p.m. every Monday night at the Owl’s Nest. Tickets are only $1, and the funds will help purchase firefighting equipment for the department. Additionally, firefighters will be serving pork chops at the Owl’s Nest during Sandwich Days from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 19 and Sept. 15.
