Peoria Public Library
As wonderful as libraries are, it’s no wonder that more than 92 percent of Illinoisans live in a library service area.
If, however, you are among the 1 million Illinois residents who do not have a local library, then you can purchase a non-resident library card from your closest public library.
The annual cost of a non-resident library card varies by taxing district.
At Peoria Public Library, it is $144 for year-long access to all our resources — physical and digital. With a library card, you then have the ability to borrow items from other area libraries or via inter-library loan.
Here are some exceptions to having to purchase a non-resident Peoria Public Library card:
- Any student who attends a Peoria public or parochial school, even if they live outside Peoria, is eligible for a Peoria Public Library card, valid Aug. 15 through Aug. 14 of the next year.
- Qualifying disabled veterans and their surviving spouses.
- Qualifying Peoria-area teachers may receive a limited-use card for school purposes only.
Unsure if you live in a library service area? The Illinois State Library has an interactive digital map (scan the QR code below) where you can enter your address to check.
