SCREENS

As my high school Latin teacher used to say when she thought a girl came to class with a skimpy top, “June is busting out all over!” Summer’s kicking off with interesting shows on TV, cable and streaming, and in moviehouses.

June 1-2 — “The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson” is a two-night documentary on Lifetime, seeking to clarify who she was and what happened in her killing. Dozens of people are featured, along with the victim’s voice.

June 4 — The eight-episode “Star Wars: The Acolyte” on Disney+ follows a Jedi Master investigating a crime spree. A former apprentice appears with the fading Jedis and the rising Sith.

June 4 — In a funny, bittersweet hour-long special recorded at New York’s Apollo Theater, comic actor Marlon Wayans’ “Good Grief” recounts recent losses in his life, continuing on Amazon Prime.

Live: sports & awards — the NBA finals start June 6 on ABC; the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards are on CBS June 7; the Belmont Stakes will be in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., this year and show on Fox June 8; the Stanley Cup wraps up the NHL season June 13 on ESPN; the 77th Tony Awards will be June 16 on CBS; and cycling’s 11th Tour de France will be telecast starting June 29 on NBC.

June 7 — In theaters, “Ballerina” is a spinoff of the “John Wick” films starring Ana de Armas as an “artistic” assassin. Featured are Keanu Reeves, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Ian McShane, and the late Lance Reddick.

June 14 — In cineplexes, the sequel “Inside Out 2” is inside the head of now-teenager Riley (who might feel new emotions). The animated picture’s vocal cast includes Amy Poehler and Lewis Black.

June 14 — Apple’s eight-episode remake of novelist Scott Turow’s “Presumed Innocent” stars Jake Gyllenhaal in a thriller about Chicago prosecutors thrown into chaos when a colleague is suspected of homicide.

June 19 — “Hope in The Water” travels the planet to show the creative solutions and breakthrough “blue food” technologies that could feed the world and help save threatened seas and fresh waterways. David E. Kelley produces, and food philanthropist José Andrés (World Central Kitchen) is a special guest. The three-part docuseries airs on PBS.
