ART EXHIBITS
- “Through a Feminine Lens: Female Artists and their Visions of Peoria” is open July 1-26 at the Foster Gallery.
SPECIAL EVENTS
- The Peoria Park District’s “The Streets Belong to Me” is a free community event at Glen Oak Park on July 3, when a DJ and other entertainment will be presented — along with food and other fun.
- Wheels O’ Time Museum hosts classic fire truck rides on July 13 and July 20.
- Salsa at the CAC, a monthly salsa night, takes place on July 19 at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria.
MUSIC
- Nathan Taylor & Friends will perform July 12 as a part of the Live at the Five Spot series at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria.
- The Singer Songwriter series at Tres Rojas Winery in Washington on July 19 will feature Barry Cloyd.
- Dave Hoffman & Friends return to the CIJS stage at Trailside Event center on July 21, when Hoffman’s trumpet and flugelhorn will be joined by an all-star cast: Dan Burke on saxophone, Andy Crawford on bass, Mike Nellas on guitar and Jason Brannon on drums.
- “Fragrance of Praise” is a gospel show featuring Darius D. Darling (pictured), Kayla Boyce and other artists, scheduled for July 26 at the 3300 Event Center.
- For fans of tribute shows and the 1970s-80s heydays of Queen, Killer Queen — with Patrick Myers covering Freddy Mercury’s vocals — will perform July 28 at the Peoria Civic Center.
THEATER
- Community Children’s Theatre presents Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” at Peoria Players Theatre on July 10-14.
- Chillicothe Players perform “Rainy Meadows” on July 11-14 at the Shore Acres Clubhouse in Chillicothe.
- Corn Stock Theatre presents “Oliver” on July 12-14 and July 17- 20.
CLASSES & LECTURES
- Lawyers for the Creative Arts presents the Nonprofit Compliance Series: Fundraising Options and Donation Acknowledgement on July 2.
- Bill and Gale Rattner will host a nonprofit start-up workshop on July 17 via Zoom.

SCREENS
July 3 — “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” brings back Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold and Bronson Pichot in a sequel with the Detroit detective returning to California with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) probing a conspiracy threatening Foley’s daughter. The Netflix romp co-stars Paul Reiser and Kevin Bacon.
July 10 — “Sunny” features a woman living in Japan coping with her life turned inside-out after apparently losing her husband and son in a mysterious plane crash. She turns to a domestic robot, Sunny, manufactured by her husband’s company. Apple TV+.
July 10 — “Exploding Kittens” is a new comedy series about the eternal battle between Heaven and Hell — with God and Satan sent to Earth as chubby house cats. Netflix.
July 12 — A new installment in the hit “Descendants” franchise, “Descendants: The Rise of Red” is a Disney+ feature about the daughters of Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts traveling back in time to prevent a coup in Auradon Prep.
July 14 — “Tulsa King” stars Sylvester Stallone as a New York crime boss starting over with a new mob after a long stint in prison. The CBS series was created by writer Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) and features Martin Starr and Daana Delaney.
July 18 — An adaptation of the gladiator novel, “Those About to Die” follows a cross-section of characters from ancient Rome. The 10-episode series will stream on Amazon Prime.
July 24 — “Time Bandits” is a 10-episode adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s 1981 film, here centering on an 11-year-old history nerd (Kal-El Tuck) who discovers a time-traveling portal in his bedroom. The Apple TV+ series co-stars Lisa Kudrow and a colorful cast portraying a ragtag group of thieves. Filmmaker/actor Taika Waititi is one of several directors trying to steer the silly ship.
July 26 — Cineplexes will be crowded for the long-awaited “Deadpool & Wolverine,” with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, plus a host of cameos from the Marvel multiverse.
Live: sports — The prestigious Wimbledon tennis tournament is scheduled to show on ESPN July 1-14; Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas, is July 16 on Fox; the WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix (with the USA Basketball Women’s National Team vs. remaining All-Stars) is set for July 20 on ABC; and the Summer Olympics will air on NBC starting July 26.
