Peoria Mayor Rita Ali will be challenged in her bid for re-election by City Councilman John Kelly, according to the Peoria Journal Star.
Ali became the first woman to be elected Peoria Mayor after she edged Jim Montelongo by 43 votes in 2021. She became the first Black woman to be elected to Peoria City Council in 2019, when she was voted into the half-circle along with Kelly.
The election is set for April, 2025. The JS reports if three or more candidates join the fray, a primary will be held in February.
