ART EXHIBITS
- The Illinois Art League member exhibition is at the Time Gallery until Sept. 20.
- “The Hope Chest” by artist Barbie Perry and “This Beautiful Mess” by artist Constance Estep are showing at the Contemporary Art Center until Oct. 18.
- From now through Sept. 26, Hot Ciao XI returns to the Studios at Sheridan.
- “River of Painted Birds” is on display at the Peoria Art Guild through Sept. 27.
SPECIAL EVENTS
- “Whisper and Shout,” an open mic night for poetry, returns to the Contemporary Art Center on Sept. 5.
- The Hayloft Shops in Mossville will present its 42nd annual Art & Craft Fair, rain or shine, 10-5 p.m. Sept. 6, 10-4 p.m. Sept. 7 and 12-4 p.m. Sept. 8. Besides demonstrating crafts and art, Hayloft will celebrate 54 years here with folk music that Friday and Saturday, plus a bake sale. Lunch will be available all three days.
- Blacksmithing demonstrations are scheduled Sept. 14 and 28 at Wheels o’ Time Museum and continue on the second and fourth Saturdays through October.
- Peoria Art Guild’s Fine Art Fair is scheduled for Sept. 28- 29 on the Peoria Riverfront.
- “Artrageous” comes to Five Points Washington on Sept. 29.
THEATER
- Peoria Players will perform “Footloose” on Sept. 6-8 and Sept. 12- 15.
- “Waitress” will be staged at Eastlight Theatre from Sept. 27-Oct. 5.
MUSIC
- Jonny Quest will perform at Martini’s Sept. 13.
- The Contemporary Art Center’s “Live at the Five Spot” features the Judy Page Project on Sept. 13.
- “Music in the Park,” hosted by Fon Du Lac library, will feature Goodnight Gracie on Sept. 5 and Cami Proctor on Sept. 19.
- Foreigner is appearing at the Peoria Civic Center Arena on Sept. 25, with Loverboy the opening act.
CLASSES & LECTURES
- Lawyers for the Creative Arts on Sept. 3 presents the Nonprofit Compliance Series: Political Activity and Lobbying.
- Peoria Art Guild will offer a four-week Preschool Art Fun class starting Sept. 5, a six-week Creative Arts Discovery class starting Sept. 16, and a six-week Basic Drawing for Kids starting Sept. 17 at its Shoppes at Grand Prairie location. Also, the Art Guild will teach an Intro to Jewelry class on Sept. 13, three separate eight-week pottery series starting, respectively, Sept. 24, 25 and 26, plus an eight-week pottery class starting Sept. 26.
- The Peoria Historical Society hosts open-house times for the Pettengill-Morron House on Sept. 5, 12, 14, 19 and 26, and open-house times for the Flanagan House on Sept. 8 and 15. The Historical Society also offers various bus tours on Sept. 5, 13, 20 and 27, and walking tours on Sept. 7 and 21.
OTHER
- Comedian Joe Gatto (“TV’s “Impractical Jokers” and “The Misery Inex”) will perform at the Peoria Civic Center Theater Sept. 13, and the next night the Peoria Civic Center Theater will feature stand-up comic Ali Siddiq (seen in two two-hour specials “The Domino Effect” in YouTube and “Unprotected Sets” on EPIX).

SCREENS
Sept. 5 — “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” is a eight-part crime series about a daring robbery on the night when Muhammad Ali’s returned to boxing in 1970. Streaming on Peacock, it has a stellar cast including Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson.
Sept. 5 — Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning and Eve Hewson star in “The Perfect Couple,” about friction when a novelist matriarch of a wealthy Cape Cod family objects to a pending marriage — which becomes almost beside the point when a body turns up on a beach, secrets come out, and everyone is suspected. The six-episode Netflix mystery is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel.
Sept. 13 — “How to Die Alone” is a comedy series on Hulu created by and starring Natasha Rothwell as a JFK airport worker who’s never been in love, and decides to change her life after a near-death experience.
Sept. 15 — “Masterpiece: Moonflower Murders” stars Lesley Manville as book editor-turned amateur sleuth-turned hotelier Susan Ryeland, who’s relaxing in Crete when she’s bothered by an unsolved murder committed at a British country hotel eight years earlier. Tim McMullan co-stars in PBS’ six-part series.
Sept. 18 — “Agatha All Along” is a miniseries based on Marvel Comics’ character Agatha Harkness. A spin-off from the 2021 series “WandaVision,” the Disney+ show returns Kathryn Hahn as Harkness.
Sept. 20 — “Wolfs” reunites George Clooney and Brad Pitt in another theatrical release, an action comedy in which they play competitive “fixers” covering up people’s messes, forced to cooperate in a high-profile case.
Sept. 23 — Adapted from L. R. Wright’s Karl Alberg mystery novels, “Murder in a Small Town” is a series about a detective solving murders in Canada. Starring Rossif Sutherland as Alberg, the Fox program features Mya Lowe as his partner, with Kristin Kreuk and James Cromwell.
Sept. 23 — Zachary Quinto stars in “Brilliant Minds,” following the work of larger-than-life neurologist Oliver Wolf and his interns exploring patients’ minds — while dealing with their own health and relationships. The NBC series’ plots are inspired by Dr. Oliver Wolf Sacks’ research, adapted in 1990’s Oscar-nominated film “Awakenings” starring Robin Williams.
Sept. 26 — Kristen Bell and Adam Brody star as an outspoken, agnostic woman and an unconventional, charming rabbi in “Nobody Wants This” on Netflix. The 10-episode comedy focuses on their unlikely relationship.
Sept. 27 — “Lee” stars Kate Winslet as Lee Miller in a drama about a decade in the life of U.S. photojournalist Lee Miller, who captured riveting moments from war, plus a traumatic secret from her youth. In theaters, it features Alexander Skarsgard and Andy Samberg.
