West Peoria officially started holiday festivities on Dec. 2 with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall. This tradition is not just an event but a celebration of community spirit. Join the West Peoria Residents’ Association, West Peoria City Hall, and the West Peoria Lighting District as the town center transforms into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights, activities, an appearance by Santa, and holiday treats for the whole family.
After the Tree Lighting Ceremony, the West Peoria Residents Association invites you to participate in the annual Holiday Lighting Contest. Decorate homes with dazzling lights and festive decorations to spread holiday cheer and win exciting prizes. To nominate your display or that of a neighbor, call West Peoria City Hall at (309) 674-1993 and provide the address of the nominated home. WPRA members will drive around to assess the displays and award prizes for first, second, and third place.
Boy Scouts Troop 11 will fill the air with holiday cheer as they carol through the city streets starting at 6 p.m. Dec. 16th and 18th, weather permitting. This holiday tradition has become a favorite among locals. Watch for the Scouts as they tour West Peoria streets with holiday music for the community.
SNOW ROUTES: As winter approaches, don’t forget to prepare for the elements. To ensure efficient snow removal, please remove vehicles from the streets when two inches or more of snowfall is forecast. Stay updated on weather conditions and city services by visiting the city website, Facebook page, or the Simplicity app.

NEIGHBORHOOD HELP: Looking to get involved in 2025? Don’t forget to stay informed, volunteer, and support local businesses. To borrow a catchphrase from the West Peoria Fire Department, West Peoria has been a community of “Neighbors Serving Neighbors” since 1939 and beyond. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, city officials, and community members who make West Peoria a thriving community. Together, we all create a thriving and vibrant West Peoria for generations. Happy Holidays and a prosperous New Year!
