ART EXHIBITS

• As always, most local galleries have tours and opening receptions for “First Friday” — this month on Jan. 3.
• Whitney Johnson-Lessard’s exhibit “Held Within the Rocks and Dust” will be at the Project Space Gallery at the Peoria Art Guild through Jan. 31. Also at the Guild through Jan. 31 is “Steam Locomotive in China” by Qingjun Huang.

THEATRE

• Broadway in Peoria is presenting a touring company of “Nannie” on Jan. 21-22 in the Civic Center Theatre.
• “Sweeney Todd” opens Jan. 31 at Peoria Players Theatre, where it’s set to continue for six performances in February.

MUSIC

• Dorann and The Soul Mystics perform Jan. 10 and The Nikbeats perform Jan. 24 at the Contemporary Art Center for “Live at the Five Spot.”
• The Peoria Symphony Orchestra presents “Encanto: In Concert” at 3 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Civic Center Theater.
• Contemporary country artist Tony Jackson appears at ICC’s Performing Arts Center on Jan. 30.
• Five Points Washington hosts Lee Green-wood on Jan. 31.

COMEDY

• The Jukebox Comedy Club hosts comics Nick Griffin Jan. 10-11 and Myq Kaplan Jan. 17-18.
• Stand-up comedian Jo Koy brings “Just Being Koy” tour to the Civic Center Theater on Jan. 23.

CLASSES & LECTURES

• The Peoria Art Guild is offering a Palette Knife Painting course starting Jan. 8; a Plein Air Painting class Jan. 11; a Kids Clay Hand-building course starting and a Creative Arts Discovery course both beginning Jan. 20. Basic Drawing for Adults starts Jan. 21, Intermediate Drawing starts Jan. 22, a Basic Painting for Kids course starts Jan. 23, and a Watercolor Portraits course starts Jan. 24.

AUDITIONS

• Auditions for Peoria Players’ “Murder on the Orient Express” are Jan. 3- 4 at First Christian Church of Peoria, where they’ll also hold auditions for “Grease” Jan. 18- 19.
• The Peoria Area Civic Chorale will hold auditions for spring on Jan. 7 at First Christian Church of Peoria.
