In an election recap at the Peoria County Election Commission meeting Nov. 12, Executive Director Elizabeth Gannon said the county had almost 70% turnout among registered voters. Of that, 18% used vote-by-mail, 20.1% used early voting, and 30.8% voted on election day. Almost 90% — 86.8% — of vote-by-mail ballots were returned.
The city of Peoria will have a primary election since City Councilmen Chuck Grayeb and John Kelly will challenge Mayor Rita Ali, three people running for District 2 councilman, and two Republicans running for township assessor. (Three candidates are running for city treasurer.)
Thirty-one polling places will be available for the Feb. 25 primary; drop boxes will be available two weeks before that date.
