Two House Representatives who grew up in Peoria spoke at the Presidents Day Dinner on Feb. 17 at the Itoo Hall. About 200 people heard Democrats Nikki Budzinski (13th Dist.) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (18th Dist.) both address what they called the “constitutional crisis” sparked by President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk.
Listing Illinois programs hurt by the “heartless and cruel administration” eliminating jobs and freezing funds appropriated by Congress, Budzinski said, “This challenge to the Constitution is real and relentless. The question is: What if he doesn’t listen to the courts?”
Krishnamoorthi pledged that Democrats will “cooperate where we can and oppose Donald Trump when we must,” citing “the vengeance agenda of Kash Patel” and “pardoning the January 6 insurrectionists.”
The Nov. 5 election showed that voters wanted change, he continued, “but not malevolent, incompetent chaos,” adding that the choice is to “give in or fight — and we must fight.”
The annual event is produced by Peoria County Democrats.
