The April 1 Consolidated General Election will have Peoria City Councilman John Kelly challenging Mayor Rita Ali on the ballot after the pair emerged from the Peoria County primary election on March 25.

The two candidates participated in a contentious debate on March 13 at Peoria High School as they discussed race, DEI, public safety, education and homelessness.

Also on the ballot, Council Dist. 1 incumbent Denise Jackson will be challenged by James Kemper; Dist. 2 will have Alex Carmona vs. Estrella Diaz; 3rd District Councilman Tim Riggenbach is running unopposed; incumbent 4th District Councilman Andre Allen faces challenger James Messmore; and incumbent 5th District Councilman Denis Cyr goes against Hind Abi-Akar.

Brookie Petty Sommerville is running against Jim Montelongo for City Treasurer. And Peoria Township Supervisor LaTrina Leary, a Democrat, is facing Republican Anita Meeker and former Township Supervisor Frank Abdnour, who is running as an Independent.
