Arts Alerts: Paint the Path artwork at Five Points; Grease at Peoria Players; 9 to 5: The Musical at Cornstock

ART EXHIBITS

  • The 61st annual Rennick art exhibition is open May 9-June 5 at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
  • View artwork from “Paint The Path” events at the Community Gallery Wall at Five Points Washington from May 18-June 22.

THEATRE

  • “Grease” runs May 2-4 and 7-11 at Peoria Players Theatre.
  • “9 to 5: The Musical” opens May 30-June 1 at Corn Stock Theatre, with shows continuing June 4-7. Based on the 1980 movie, the comedy tracks three women working for a lousy boss, and taking matters — and the company — into their own hands.

Cousin Eddie performs May 9 and “Elvis Himselvis” performs May 23 at the Contemporary Art Center for “Live at the Five Spot.”

MUSIC

  • Peoria Area Civic Chorale presents “Sing On!” May 2-3 at Five Points Washington
  • Bradley University’s Dingeldine Music Center will be shaking May 2-5 for five different presentations: the Groove Project/Boom Box Concert May 2; Music for violin, cello and piano the afternoon of May 3; a Jazz Ensemble performance that evening; an afternoon show by Bradley Chamber Music on May 4; and a Bradley piano studio recital on May 5.
  • Cousin Eddie performs May 9 and “Elvis Himselvis” performs May 23 at the Contemporary Art Center for “Live at the Five Spot.”
  • The Peoria International Choir will perform May 10 at Peoria’s First Christian Church.
  • Vocalist Stephanie Aaron is at Trailside Event Center on May 18 for the Central Illinois Jazz Society’s monthly production.
  • Little Feat returns to Peoria for a stop in its “Strike up the band” tour, and will appear in the Civic Center’s Prairie Home Alliance Theater May 19.

SPECIAL EVENTS

  • The Gerald M. Brookhart “Arts in Education” spring celebration series — featuring 12,000 pre-K-12th grade students from 136 schools in seven area counties — wraps up May 16 at the Peoria Riverfront Museum and Caterpillar Visitor’s Center with “Peace Plays in Peoria Day.”
  • The Peoria Art Guild holds a chalk art competition at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie this May 31.

CLASSES & LECTURES

  • Peoria Art Guild hosts an introduction to sculpture class May 5, an eight-week pottery series starting May 6, a palette knife painting class May 7, and three different eight-week pottery series starting May 7, 8 or 9.
  • The Fine Arts Society of Peoria is offering a presentation by Tara Ritacco, a textile professional and mixed media artist at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on May 8.
