APRIL SILVER

As the calendar turns to May, this corner of Illinois awakens with the promise of warmer days and the vibrant hues of spring. Gardens begin their colorful displays, and a renewed energy seems to fill the air. It’s a time for enjoying the outdoors and connecting with neighbors as the community comes alive after the quieter months.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 7th, because a treasure trove of bargains and unique finds will be hitting the streets. That’s the date for the annual Community Garage Sales, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. In a wonderful show of neighborhood spirit, our community-wide event will once again coincide with the popular sales happening along Moss Avenue and in the charming Madison Manor area. So, get ready to stroll through these neighborhoods, discover hidden gems, and perhaps even meet a neighbor or two along the way.

MEMORIALIZING: Before the excitement of June arrives, the community will come together on Saturday, May 24th, to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. Plans are currently underway for the annual Memorial Day Service, a solemn and heartfelt event dedicated to remembering the sacrifices of West Peoria veterans. This year’s service is tentatively scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the beautiful new West Peoria City Hall, located at 2421 W. Rohmann Avenue. All residents are invited to attend this important gathering and show gratitude for the dedication and courage of local heroes. Please note that West Peoria City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 26th, as the nation observes Memorial Day.

SPRING CLEAN: Keeping the city clean and green is a community effort that extends throughout the growing season. Residents are reminded that yard waste pickup continues every Friday throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Be sure to have properly prepared yard waste ready for collection each Friday to help keep neighborhoods tidy.

NEW WALKS: Exciting improvements are also underway to city infrastructure. Residents driving along Dixon Avenue and Bergan Avenue will notice the progress of new sidewalk construction as part of the city’s ongoing sidewalk program. Feel free to drive by and see the tangible improvements being made to enhance walkability in our community. If you and your neighbors are interested in petitioning for new sidewalks on your street, West Peoria City Hall is ready to assist. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the City for guidance through the necessary process.

SANDWICH TIME: Looking ahead to June, be sure to save the date for a delicious way to support local heroes. The West Peoria Fire Department will be holding its next Sandwich Days event from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21st. The familiar and welcoming spot in front of the Owl’s Nest will once again be the location for this popular fundraiser. Stop by and treat yourself to a mouthwatering pork chop or brat, and take this opportunity to show appreciation for the dedicated men and women of the West Peoria Fire Department.

As May unfolds, embrace the spirit of togetherness, witness the positive changes happening in West Peoria neighborhoods, and remember the sacrifices that have shaped our nation.
