May 1: A horror pic in the “haunted-house” vein, “Hokum” stars Adam Scott (“Severance”) as a writer visiting an Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, not realizing there’s talk of a witch there. Theaters

May 2: The 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Ky. NBC

May 4: This remake of William Golding’s creepy classic “Lord of the Flies,” about stranded boys reverting to anarchy, if not barbarism, is a four-part series directed by Marc Munden (2024’s “The Sympathizer”). Netflix

May 8: Sally Field and Alfred Molina star in “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” a mystery-drama based on Shelby Van Pelt’s bestseller about a night-shift worker at an aquarium who develops a relationship with a sentient inhabitant there. Netflix

May 12: “Marty: Life is Short” is a documentary about Martin Short’s career in comedy, TV, film and the stage, with rare clips. Netflix

May 14: “Soul Mates” is a drama about two men attracted to each other following acts of betrayal, regret and isolation. The eight-episode series was directed by Shunki Hashizume (2022’s “More Than Words”). Netflix

May 17: The 61st Academy of Country Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. Amazon Prime

May 19: “W.E.B. Du Bois: Rebel with A Cause” recounts the amazing life and legacy of a man born a few years after the Civil War, an activist who lived until shortly before 1963’s March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Narrated  by Viola Davis, the two-hour “American Masters” documentary features dramatic readings of Du Bois’ writings by Common, Courtney B. Vance, and Jeffrey Wright. PBS

May 20: John Krasinski returns as the intrepid Marine in “Jack Ryan: Ghost War,” about ex-operatives reuniting to look into rogue agents. Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly also return. Amazon Prime

May 21: “The Boroughs” features a stellar cast in a sort of supernatural version of 1985’s “Cocoon,” as residents of a retirement community unite to fight a strange threat. The eight-episode series features Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard and Bill Pullman. Netflix

May 25: The 52nd American Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. CBS
