Jessily Joseph is new Executive Director of the Peoria County Election Commission. The former assistant executive director was unanimously selected by the Board of Election Commissioners on May 22. She replaces Elizabeth Gannon, who resigned.
“I am excited for this new chapter and opportunity,” Joseph, who joined the Election Commission as AED in 2022, said in a news release on peoriaelections.gov. “Elections are the basis of our democracy, and the work we do at the Election Commission is so meaningful. I’m grateful to have the Board’s support as I step into this role.”
In regular business, the board met May 12. One line item was voted down under monthly expenses. Gannon had asked for reimbursement for mileage to a workshop in Chicago that she attended two days before her last day with the Election Commission.
New political parties could file for the November election from May 18 through the 26th. Joseph listed upcoming projects which include next year’s budget and several grant applications. In August, 100,000 notifications will go out asking registered voters if they are interested in permanent Vote by Mail. Peoria County already has about 20,000 voters signed up.
