The Peoria Park District Board met April 22 with a substantial number of citizen comments.
All comments were related to the proposed sale of land by the Detweiller Trust to O’Brien Steel. Main points of concern include: access to the Detweiller Playground/Marina; threats to the goose breeding area; obscured views of the Illinois River and trail; loss of parking spots. The site is of historic importance and unique with its access to the river.
Detweiller Trust representatives addressed some of these issues. They said the trust is meeting with PPD representatives; the Rock Island Greenway gets a wider space granted in perpetuity; a new parking lot will be added so access will still be available; the “Goose Loop’ and trail to the river will not be touched.
It was felt efforts had been made to address all concerns raised by the public, and
a fair, positive relationship had been created.
Two new items involving projects at Det-weiller Marina were postponed, although Trust reps indicated they preferred action that night.
