Peoria Public Library Main Library at 107 N.E. Monroe will close to the public on Monday, November 1and reopen on Monday, December 13. All other library locations will remain open and materials can be reserved and renewed at www.peoriapubliclibrary.org .
The closure comes as part of the remodeling that will unveil an exciting new, 21st century Main Library in early summer 2011. All library services have been offered from the basement level of the building since mid-January 2010 while three floors were remodeled. During the closure, staff will be moving materials back to new homes on the remodeled first and second floors so work can begin on the lower level.
While the Main Library is closed, the current temporary front entrance and sidewalk will be remodeled. All the computers, self-checks, shelving and other interior furnishings will also be installed during the closing.
Patrons will still be able to use all other locations of Peoria Public Library including Lakeview, Lincoln, McClure and RiverWest Branches and the Bookmobile will continue to run during the closing.
The Peoria Public Library website at www.peoriapubliclibrary.com also allows library card holders to browse for available books, place holds and ask to have materials sent to a preferred pickup location. Cardholders may also download audio and e-books as well as access numerous databases, tutor.com homework help and much more from any internet connected device.
The newly constructed North Branch will open in Spring 2011 and the expanded and restored Lincoln Branch will open in late Summer 2011.
