Adam Sandler (“Uncut Gems”) on June 8 returns to a less-than-comedic project: “Hustle,” about a basketball scout trying to recruit a talented, troubled player. Co-starring with Sandler are Robert Duvall, Queen Latifah and NBA-player cameos including Seth Curry.

- The Peoria Municipal Band is back for the summer, playing 7 p.m. concerts Sundays on June 5, 12, 19 and 26 at Glen Oak Park Amphitheater; Wednesdays on June 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Water Street/Warehouse District; and Friday June 24 at St. Philomena Church/School.

Novelist Walter Mosley on June 5 will speak at commencement at Knox College in Galesburg, where previous speakers have been Bill Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Stephen Colbert and Barack Obama.

On May 16, Apple-TV+ won a Webby Award for its series “Severance,” days after announcing it had committed to a second season. Directed by Ben Stiller and starring Adam Scott, it’s worth discovering or catching up on for its provocative theme of how far companies go to assert control over workers. FX on June 16 premiers “The Old Man,” a series based on the 2017 novel by Thomas Perry. The thriller stars Jeff Bridges as an ex-CIA agent living off the grid but dealing with new threats. John Lithgow co-stars.
