The title of the history of a generation of creators subverting comic books says it all: “Dirty Pictures: How an Underground Network of Nerds, Feminists, Misfits, Geniuses, Bikers, Potheads, Printers, Intellectuals, and Art School Rebels Revolutionized Art and Invented Comix,” out June 14.

Cinema

Adam Sandler (“Uncut Gems”) on June 8 returns to a less-than-comedic project: “Hustle,” about a basketball scout trying to recruit a talented, troubled player. Co-starring with Sandler are Robert Duvall, Queen Latifah and NBA-player cameos including Seth Curry.

MUSIC

  • The Peoria Municipal Band is back for the summer, playing 7 p.m. concerts Sundays on June 5, 12, 19 and 26 at Glen Oak Park Amphitheater; Wednesdays on June 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Water Street/Warehouse District; and Friday June 24 at St. Philomena Church/School.
  • Air Supply will perform June 10 at the Civic Center Theater.
  • Kevin Hart & the Vibe Tribe will be featured June 16 in the Summer Jazz Series at the Betty Jayne Brimmer Center for the Performing Arts.
  • The Organization and the Central Illinois Jazz Society will play June 19 at Trailside Event Center.
  • Katie Belle & The Belle Rangers will bring “Music in the McKenzie” at Peoria Public Library’s North Branch June 26.

DANCE

The Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show is set for June 7 at the Civic Center Theater.

LECTURE

Novelist Walter Mosley on June 5 will speak at commencement at Knox College in Galesburg, where previous speakers have been Bill Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Stephen Colbert and Barack Obama.

STREAMING

On May 16, Apple-TV+ won a Webby Award for its series “Severance,” days after announcing it had committed to a second season. Directed by Ben Stiller and starring Adam Scott, it’s worth discovering or catching up on for its provocative theme of how far companies go to assert control over workers. It co-stars John Turturro, Patricia Arquette and Christopher Walken.

TELEVISION

FX on June 16 premiers “The Old Man,” a series based on the 2017 novel by Thomas Perry. The thriller stars Jeff Bridges as an ex-CIA agent living off the grid but dealing with new threats. John Lithgow co-stars.

THEATER

  • Corn StockTheatre is presenting “Once Upon A Mattress” June 3-11 under its big-top tent at Bradley Park.
  • Arc Light Productions is producing “The Entire American Revolution (in 40 minutes or less)” June 21 and 24-25. The romp will be mounted at Illini Bluffs High School in Glasford.,/li>
