This award recognizes the contributions of a person or persons in the Peoria area whose efforts help to eliminate the root causes of poverty and social injustice. This award was established in 2007 during Common Place’s 40th anniversary to honor Nancy Rakoff for her 39 years of outstanding commitment to the people of Common Place and the community. The 2011 award dinner will be held on June 9th at the Pere Marquette Hotel.
Nominees will be considered from the areas of justice, community organizing, neighborhood development/stabilization, education, and literacy. Involvement may be in a single effort or broader efforts over a period of years and may be in a volunteer or profession capacity.
A five-member panel comprised of a previous award winner, a Common Place program participant, two Common Place board members and one member from the community will select the award winner.
Nominations must be received by March 18, 2011.
