During the last month local residents donated 62 cell phones for Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth’s (D-Peoria) 4th Annual Cell Phones for Soldiers Drive. Through this drive, over 9,300 minutes of talk time will be provided to soldiers overseas.
“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to donate a cell phone during this drive,” Gordon-Booth said. “The few minutes you took to find your old and discarded phone and bring it to one of our drop off locations provides comfort and joy to soldiers who are currently serving our country and their families.”
Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit organization that has raised millions of dollars in donations and distributed more than 2 million prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas. Collected equipment will be sold to ReCellular and the proceeds are used to purchase calling cards that are given to U.S. military personnel serving around the world. The drive this year provided 9300 minutes of talk time to soldiers and their families.
“If anyone was unable to drop off their old and unused cell phone, please feel free to drop by my office and donate the phone at anytime,” said Gordon-Booth. “My office is a permanent drop-off location. We send phones on an ongoing basis to Cell Phones for Soldiers.”
Gordon’s district office is located at 300 E. War Memorial Drive, Suite 303. There is a box outside her door for cell phone collection.
