West Peoria News for October 2012

Check out the West Peoria 2012 Beautiful Yard winner. The winner is Keith Morrell; the outstanding yard is located at 613 N Sterling, corner of N. Sterling and W. Barker Avenues. The reward was very appropriately given to him.

The West Peoria Firefighters’ Association has scheduled a raffle and fund raising dinner at Crusen’s on Farmington Road on Sunday, October 21st from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Firefighters will be going door to door selling the fundraiser tickets. Tickets are $1/ea or 5/$5.00.  The sixth ticket will be your meal ticket which includes a pork sandwich, side dishes and a beverage. Carry-outs will be available. Raffle prizes include $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $100, third place. You do not need to be present to win.  The drawing will be held the following Wednesday at the fire house. Raffle tickets will be available at the door. This is the department’s biggest fundraiser each year and help supports them in the work to keep West Peoria a great place to live.

The second Calvin Coolidge Mothers Club Reunion had another good turn out with a dinner August 27th, at Sky Harbor; 47 people were in attendance. Retired principal Hall Okerberg and his wife Marilyn were surprise guests. They made a special trip from Flanagan, IL to attend and share some of their memories of Calvin Coolidge School. If anyone knows of someone not contacted about this year’s event, please get information to Mary Hamm 697-4308, Alice Nash 674-4308, Guydeen Roos 674-7740 or Diane Craps 633-0669. As mandated by law, each township must host caucuses before their upcoming elections.  West Peoria Township will hold its Township Caucus on Tues. Dec. 4, 2012.  Anyone interested in being a township should contact the West Peoria Township Office on W. Rohmann Ave. The office is open Tues, Wed., and Thurs. 9:00 a.m. – noon. The last day to register to vote for the November 6th, 2012 election is October 9th 2012. Residents of Peoria County who are 18 or will be 18 at the time of the election can register with City Clerk at West Peoria City Hall:  10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration is also available at the Peoria County Clerk’s Office at the Peoria County Courthouse, Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Early election voting for the November 6th 2012 election will be held at West Peoria City Hall on the following dates: Friday Oct. 26, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday Nov. 2, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

On Nov. 6th 2012 West Peoria polling places are: Ward 1 and Ward 2 at the City Garage, 1322 Hillside Avenue; Ward 3 and Ward 4 at the Franciscan Recreation Center, 908 N. Sterling Avenue.

Election for the following West Peoria officials will take place April 9th, 2013; one alderman from each ward; Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3, and Ward 4. Anyone interested in running for one of these positions should contact the City Clerk for a nominating packet.

The packets will be available for pickup at West Peoria City Hall now through December 17th 2012.  If you have any questions, call West Peoria City Clerk Carole Stephens at West Peoria City Hall 674-1993.

FALL IS HERE: Please do not rake or blow leaves or grass clippings into the street as it causes the storm sewers to back up. All residents are required to sign up for garbage service with Waste Management – 1-800-796-9696. You will be charged for this service. Landscape Waste Pick Up is included. Residents are responsible for keeping their section of the alleyway free of weeds, debris, etc. No Open Burning of trash or landscape waste is permitted. Inoperable Vehicles – All vehicles without an up-to-date license sticker are considered inoperable and are in violation of City Code. Any vehicle without said sticker must be stored in a garage. Garage Sales are permitted once each quarter for no more than three days. Permits are required for new or replacement fences, new or replacement sidewalks or driveways or patios, new or replacement decks & porches, sheds, garages, additions, structure demolition, swimming pools & home occupation. Most permits are $15.00 to $25.00. Please call City Hall to determine if a permit is needed.

The topic will be “Drugs” at the West Peoria Neighborhood Watch on Wed., Oct. 10, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. A county deputy will give an up-date on any criminal activity in the area. Plan to attend and bring a friend. Bill O’Neill, Code Officer, City of West Peoria, will speak at the West Peoria Residents’ Association meeting on October 18, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The public is welcome.
