Local Merchant receives honor from Community Organization West Bluff Council. Costume Trunk Owner Steve Spain is the recipient of the 2013 West Bluff Council “Pillar of the West Bluff Award.”
Spain was nominated by West Bluff Council member Bernadine Nolan, president of the Columbia Terrace North Neighborhood Association. The Costume Trunk has been a fixture of the Main Street retail scene for more than 30 years, evolving from a small shop in the old Varsity Theater to its current location at 710 West Main. “Steve is an active member of the Main Street Business Association, as well as an advocate for all aspects of the area, including sidewalks, hanging floral baskets, parking etc,” said Nolan. “He is an asset to our West Bluff corridor.”
The Pillar Award is presented each year to recognize individuals for outstanding service to the West Bluff area. “I cannot imagine West Main Street or the West Bluff without Steve Spain and The Costume Trunk,” said West Bluff Council president Conrad Stinnett. “Steve has been a vital part of the Main Street scene for decades and his efforts have been very much appreciated. The members of the West Bluff Council and I are pleased to recognize him this year.”
The Pillar Award was presented at the June 27th meeting of the West Bluff Council, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Bradley University Student Center.
The West Bluff Council is pro-active community organization comprised of 8 West Bluff neighborhood associations, the West Main Street Redevelopment Association and Bradley University. For more information, please call Conrad Stinnett at 309-494-9821
