City manager announces new public works director

City Manager Patrick Urich announced the new Peoria Public Works Director, Michael Rogers. Mr. Rogers’ previous position was Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of San Antonio, Texas, where he was responsible for the management of 471 employees for maintenance and operations of the City’s Street, Transportation and Storm Water networks. Many of his core functions included street and sidewalk repairs, flood, traffic, tunnel and vegetation management as well as natural creek way maintenance. He was responsible for the success of the upgrade of the $33 million Traffic Signal Synchronization System (TSSM) and the Departmental reorganization effort to streamline San Antonio’s structure for better customer relationships.

His experience includes 22 years in City and County government where he has been instrumental in engineering and development of the infrastructure of buildings, roads and Capital Improvements Projects. He has supported and led the growth and development of achievements in all aspects of public service as an engineer, manager, supervisor and consultant. He was named the Public Works Leadership Fellow (PWLF) in 2012 by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Originally from Michigan, Rogers has a BS Construction Engineering degree from Lawrence Technological University; an MS in Civil Engineering-Concentration Transportation Engineering degree from Michigan State University; and a fellowship in County Leadership Institute, New York University’s Graduate School of Public Services. Mr. Rogers will formerly start as the Director of Peoria Public Works on July 15, 2013. He is married with four children, aging from 16, 14, 11 to 7.
