Gordon Backs New Law to Employ Illinoisans on Public Works Projects
Continuing her commitment to put people back to work, State Rep. Jehan Gordon (D-Peoria) is applauding a new law requiring 90 percent of workers employed on state-funded public work projects to be residents of Illinois.
Public Act 96-0929 provides for the 90 percent threshold during times of excessive unemployment for public work projects funded in whole or in part by the state. Excessive unemployment means any month immediately following two consecutive calendar months, during which the level of unemployment in the State of Illinois has exceeded five percent.
Other measures supported by Gordon includes: the creation of a Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit, the extension of the Manufacturers Purchase Tax Credit and a pilot program to create jobs and save taxpayers’ money on renovations to historic Hotel Pere Marquette. Gordon has also voted to reduce state spending by $2.5 billion and again voted to cut her own pay and that of other lawmakers.
Gordon Passes Extension of Research and Development Tax Credit to Help Keep Jobs in Illinois
Governor Pat Quinn recently signed into law legislation supported by State Rep. Jehan Gordon (D-Peoria) that extends for one year the Research and Development Tax Credit, an important tool to help businesses improve products and services, create jobs and compete in the global marketplace.
Senate Bill 3655 was introduced after the Illinois Department of Revenue determined the current Research and Development Tax Credit expired at the end of 2009. The new law extends the credit through 2010. Gordon advocates extending the tax credit even longer.
The Research and Development Tax Credit is one of many other tools offered to businesses located, or interested in locating in Illinois. Others include the High-Impact Business Investment Credit, and the EDGE (Economic Development for a Growing Economy) Credit and the Manufacturers Purchase Credit.
