Xbox Football Game Tournament – Compete in the Peoria Park District’s new Xbox 360 “Madden NFL 11” Tournament. Players will go head-to-head on Saturday, September 10, starting at 7:45 p.m. at the Glen Oak Amphitheatre. The Xbox 360 will be projected on the big outdoor screen. Home Educator Classes at the Peoria Zoo – The Peoria Zoo offers classes for children ages 5-13 who are home educated. Make science more exciting as we explore a new topic each month that helps to meet state education standards. Parents are welcome to attend but are not required. If classes fill, alternate dates may be available.  Fee for each class: $5 for Zoo members/$9 for non-members. TAILGATE CHALLENGE – Do you have what it takes to be a tailgating champion? The Peoria Park District will host teams of four (ages 16+) to compete in various tailgate games including Bags, Washers and Ladder Golf on Saturday, September 17 at 9:00 a.m. at Bradley Park. The winning team will receive a trophy and bragging rights! Registration forms are available at Glen Oak Pavilion or online. Cost is $40 for residents and $45 for non-residents. 17th ANNUAL CHINQUAPIN FOLK MUSIC & STORYTELLING FESTIVAL at CAMP WOKANDA – The 17th Annual Chinquapin Folk Music and Storytelling Festival will be held at the Peoria Park District’s Camp Wokanda on Friday, September 23. Chinquapin (pronounced Chink-a-pin) was named for the majestic oak that is so prevalent in the wooded valley of Camp Wokanda, the festival’s birthplace. ZOO TOURS ANNOUNCED – Have you ever wondered… “How much do rhino eat in a day?” or “Where do giraffes sleep?” All this and more will be answered during the Peoria Zoo’s Behind the Scenes tour on September 24 at 9:00 a.m. This hour long tour will take you into areas the public doesn’t normally get to see; you can learn more about the animals and how we care for them. Greater Peoria Fall Classic Golf Tournament – The Peoria Park District’s Greater Peoria Fall Classic golf tournament will take place on September 24 and 25 at Donovan and Newman Golf Courses. This two-day tournament has green and golf car fees, door-prizes, tee prizes, and dinner both days included with the $110 entry fee. Entry deadline is September 4, but it is recommended that players sign up sooner as the tournament usually is filled to capacity. Peoria Park District Introduces New “50 Rock” Program for Active 50+ Adults – The Peoria Park District is introducing “50 Rock,” a new program created to provide activities that fit the unique needs of active young 50+ men and women of the Boomer generation (born between 1946 and 1964). Research shows that Boomer adults — most of whom are still working — are interested in filling their limited leisure time with activities that offer fun, adventure, education, challenges and experiences that result in a healthier, happier lifestyle.

“50 Rock” programs – running the gamut from pickleball and piano to computer classes and canoeing and will include “50 Rock” Rocks Wokanda, the pilot of a series of events for mature adults to be held in various locations this year and next, will be held on Saturday, October 15.Pre-registration  required.
