For the April 9 th consolidated election, there is an opening in each of West Peoria’s four wards: Candidates for each ward are: Ward 1 Leroy C. Dohm Jr; Ward 2 Jerome (Jerry) Meismer; Ward 3 Brian K. Ganson; Ward 4 James (Jami ) E. Silver. Voting will take place on that date in each of the regular polling places. Early voting in April for voters living in the county will be at the following locations: Dunlap Library, Friday, April 5th from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.; Peoria Heights Library, Saturday, April 6th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.; Peoria County Courthouse, Monday, April 1st – Tuesday, April 2nd from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 3rd – Friday, April 5th from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 6th from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
The Annual Township Meeting will be held on Tuesday April 16th at 7:30 p.m. in the West Peoria Township Building. This annual meeting is mandated by state law to be held on this day and is an opportunity for all citizens to attend, learn about township government and have a say in their local government.
Government Day is Friday, April 12th. This is a program hosted by the city and township is for local middle and high school students to visit both their offices to learn how the local governments operate. The students are offered the opportunity to participate in an aspect of each government.
The Annual Clean-Up Day will be on Saturday, April 27th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and is for West Peoria residents only. This will also be an opportunity to recycle electronics. Any questions about Clean-Up Day please call Kelly Abraham @ 673-6919.
The West Peoria Neighborhood Watch will meet on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Deputy Watkins will talk about his experiences while working undercover and Deputy Vissering will give an update on the criminal activity in the area. The public is welcome – plan to attend and bring a friend! Burglary – Break-Ins – Vandalism – It takes all of us to work together on this project!
The West Peoria Residents’ Association will meet Thursday, April 18, 2013, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Guest speaker Christy Getz will talk about Easter Seals and Children. The public is welcome.
The 2nd Annual West Peoria Senior Health Fair will be held at the Franciscan Recreation Complex on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Lions Club Hearing Lab and Methodist Mammo-Van will be available for examinations of attendees. Transportation will be provided within a two-mile radius of West Peoria, courtesy of CourtYard Estates. Light refreshments will be provided.
The City of West Peoria, West Peoria Residents’ Association, West Peoria Township and Rebuilding Together have teamed up to rehab a home in West Peoria. They still need volunteers. All vehicles without an up-to-date license sticker are considered inoperable and are in violation of City Code. Any vehicle without an up-to-date sticker must be stored in a garage.
Waste Management is the trash pickup provider for the City of West Peoria. Residents are responsible for establishing an account with them. Please call them at 1-800-796-9696 to set up your account. You will be billed for this service. Landscape waste pickup will begin again on the first Friday in April, the 5th. This service is included in your Waste Management bill.
There are still funds available for the residential paint reimbursement program. This program offers reimbursement of paint costs to residents who wish to paint the exterior of their homes or accessory structures. (sheds, storage units, or garages) Reimbursement will be granted for exterior paint only. Participants who purchase paint in the City of West Peoria will receive reimbursement of 50 % of total paint costs, up to a maximum of $250. For paint not purchased in West Peoria, the maximum amount reimbursed will be 30% of total paint costs, up to $250. Paint is available in West Peoria at West Peoria Hardware, 2504 W. Rohmann Avenue. Reimbursement of receipts will be received upon completion of project. Residents can pick up a copy of the guidelines and an application at West Peoria City Hall, 2506 W. When I first receive notice in the spring about our 4th of July Parade and Flag Raising celebration that is a hallmark of our community I invariably think warm weather. I just received it so the spirit of summer is alive a bit. West Peoria Lions Club, Troop and Pack 11 and the West Peoria community invite you to join the 4th of July Parade and Flag Raising celebration. They will be honored if you and/or your organization wish to participate and join them on this special day and enjoy the feeling of community togetherness. Trophies will be awarded for the following: most patriotic, best of show, service organizations, best juvenile and grand marshal. All entries need to be decorated in a patriotic theme. The 44th annual parade steps off at 10:00 am on the morning of the 4th. Line up begins at 8:30 on Rohmann Ave. Groups should be in place and ready to step-off no later that 9:45 a.m. City streets will be blocked at that time in preparation for the start of the parade.
