Affected Property Owners Encouraged to Contact Local Government

Due to the significant flooding in Peoria County communities along the Illinois River, Peoria County’s Planning & Zoning Department will be performing building damage estimates of affected properties in unincorporated parts of the county by utilizing known parcel and flood level elevations. Once complete, property owners will be notified of their property’s projected damage as estimated through the Residential Damage Estimator Program (RSDE).

Peoria County requests affected property owners in unincorporated parts of the county contact the Planning & Zoning Department at (309) 672-6915, either upon receipt of the RSDE notice or within a reasonable timeframe if the home owner has not returned to the property to receive notice. Owners of affected property in incorporated communities such as Chillicothe, Peoria Heights, Bartonville, Mapleton, and Kingston Mines are encouraged to contact their respective municipality for damage assessment procedures. Affected property owners in the City of Peoria should call the City’s Community Development Department at 494-8600.

Due to safety concerns, it is recommended that property owners refrain from entering affected homes and structures until an inspection can be completed by the appropriate jurisdiction. Affected property owners are encouraged to contact their local government prior to beginning cleaning operations or remodeling projects, as there are federal, state, and local regulations that govern repairs to flooded structures. Following appropriate procedures is also important should Peoria County and other counties in the region be declared federal disaster areas and grant money becomes available.
