American Family Insurance’The year was 2005. It was early spring; my husband had been doctoring a sore foot to find out that it was a tumor. We found the results to be devastating; the tumor was in the 1% category and was malignant. After a long 2 ½ year battle, my husband lost his fight with Metastatic Kidney Cancer.
There are a few things in life one does not plan on doing at such a young age. I remember so vividly that day going to the funeral home to make the plans. Nothing can take away the pain I felt, but it was comforting to know I could honor him in the way he so deserved knowing the cost would be covered by life insurance. His funeral was extremely beautiful for a funeral. My brother-in-law sang, the pastor’s eulogy was comforting and firefighters lined the parking lot in his honor. My husband, since he was a fire fighter, was escorted to the cemetery by a line of fire trucks (his love in life).
I’m telling you this story to let you know that not once did I have to worry about where the money to take care of the funeral, headstone, cards and other expenses was going to come from. While the pain of the loss is still so fresh, the last thing you want to worry about on such a tragic day is where you are going to find the money to take care of everything and to take care of yourself after all is said and done. But my husband left me with the comfort of knowing it was all taken care of. He had planned and purchased life insurance.
Death is not something anyone wants to think about, but we all need to. My husband set me up to be financially prepared the next few years.
Life insurance is so important for everyone – young or old. I have seen the full benefit of life insurance, and I hope by reading my story, many of you will stop and check to see if you are adequately covered in the case of loss. How much more can you let someone know you love them, than by insuring their financial future?
