The following names will appear on the April 4 consolidated general election ballot for the position of alderman: Ward 1, Leroy Dohm Jr.; Ward 2, Jerry Meismer; Ward 3, John Siewert II; Ward 4, James Silver. Not registered to vote? Have you moved since the last election? There are a variety of methods to register: online at https://ova.elections.il.gov/  or at West Peoria City Hall from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays. Other times may be scheduled by phoning 674-1993. Your vote is important in this local election but you must be registered. Take the time to register.

Congratulations to Deputy James Middlemas, West Peoria community officer, who has been promoted to Lieutenant. He told the Neighborhood Watch group in February that he would be working with the patrol department. Deputy Cody Meeks will take over the day position for West Peoria. To become better acquainted with Deputy Meeks, come to the next Neighborhood Watch meeting, 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 8 in City Hall.

The Beautification Committee will meet later in March to plan spring and summer projects. Anyone interested in working with this group should contact Maggie Moore at 673-0535.

Aimee Shinall, the Victims Advocate for the Sheriff’s Office presentation “Don’t get Scammed,” entertained and informed the attendees at the recent Seniors on the Go meeting. The upcoming meeting is 1 p.m. March 23 in the township building and will focus on planning events and outings.

As the Page Turns book club will review “Sting” by Sandra Brown at its next meeting Monday, March 20. “Silent Sister” by Diane Chamberlain will be featured in April. Interested?  Call Maggie Moore at 673-0535 or Loretta Fehl at 637-0326.

The West Peoria Residents Association will be planning its spring and summer meetings and events at its upcoming meeting 6 p.m. March 16 in City Hall.

Interested in gardening this spring and summer? The Western Avenue Greenway Project is planning on renting some of its garden plots. Water will be available for the gardeners. Information will be available in our next Community Word.
