Santa is taking the time to stop by and enjoy breakfast with West Peoria kids 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 2. He has checked with the Franciscan Complex and booked a time for breakfast there for him and Mrs. Claus.
The West Peoria Residents Association is helping them with breakfast goodies, decorating a holiday tree with ornaments that the kids can color in a contest and then playing games. It will be fun for all and there is no
charge to attend. The West Peoria Residents Association Board wishes everyone a very merry Christmas and a very good new year. There will not be a meeting in December.

Captain Gaa, Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, will be the guest speaker at the West Peoria neighborhood Watch meeting 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 in City Hall. During the holiday season, the Watch wishes everyone to be safe and secure. Ask your neighbor to pick up any packages that are delivered to your home while you are away. Take care not to place presents under your tree that are in view through a window. Be sure your vehicles are locked.

The Beautification Committee has strung lights on the Christmas trees and hung garland on the Welcome Wall, City Hall and the Township Building. Take a drive through our community and look at the decorated homes that have sprung up for the holiday season. They truly give us the feel of community during this special time each year.

Judging for best decorated residences will begin Dec. 6 and winners will be announced on Dec. 20. Four winners will be chosen for this annual event from the following categories: simplicity, Vegas style, religious and
holiday theme. Nomination forms can be obtained at Haddad’s Market or the West Peoria Residents Association web site. The Residents Association sponsors this event and the Santa Breakfast.

Another tradition for the holiday is the annual trek by the Cub Scouts through the streets of West Peoria on a holiday float by Cub Scouts Pack 11, their leaders and families. They are escorted by fire vehicles and add
a special holiday touch to the community. This year, they will share their songs with us 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13. Leave your outside lights on and even step outside to wave at them as they pass. It adds a special touch
to the season.

The last landscape waste pickup for 2017 will be the last Friday in December. It is not done again until spring, usually April when outside work again gets in gear.

Have a healthy, successful and enjoyable new year. We are most fortunate in West Peoria that we can enjoy the community feel that our many activities give us a setting that allows us to participate in and enjoy. Remember that the Living is Best to the West of Peoria.
