March for Our Lives Peoria

Blasts of ice and sleet from a late spring blizzard did not deter more than 350 people on Saturday protesting gun violence and demanding action at a “March for Our Lives” rally in downtown Peoria. Across the country, there were more than 800 rallies organized following the recent massacre at a Florida High School. Hundreds of thousands marched and chanted in the United States and around the world demanding stricter gun regulations and limitations on the power of the NRA.

I’m very proud of the Local High School and College students who organized, spoke and led Peoria area advocates to end gun violence! I was happy we had a Peoria-area March for Our Lives despite the snowstorm. Just imagine the crowds if the weather had been nice!

Thanks diane for representing so many of us who can’t even get out of our driveways, let alone a narrow twisted 2 lane road to reach a real highway. Yes, I am sure the crowd would have been triple, I so appreciate those who could be there. Thanks all of you!

It was my birthday and it was good for my soul to support these awesome young people! Also watched much of the DC March for Our Lives. I think the March for our Lives Peoria would have had attracted 5x more if it had been a nice day.

I just shared this with WMBD who reported on their 6:00 news that they sent reporters but found no one at the rally.

They said on 10 pm news they couldn’t find it, but then showed photos they had “obtained otherwise”. Not find the Gateway Building at 2 pm?!
Did you provide them with photos?

They said they couldn’t find it? Was it young reporters from out-of-town who don’t know how to ask for directions? That doesn’t sound like a believable tale to me by the station. Shame on them!

Thanks to the organizers of this march for all their hard work and efforts. Thanks to all the people – young, old, including parents with their little kids, who turned up for this event, inspite of the extreme weather today. I am so glad to have been part of this march and to have met such wonderful people,so driven and committed to this cause.

The Student speakers delivered powerful, insightful and moving speeches. Common sense reform is all that is being asked. Our lives are more important than the guns.
    Illinois, enough is enough!!!

Great going, to the brave souls who braved the blizzard. Flip the 18th!

I’m grateful to all who support stricter gun regulations and limitations on the NRA.

I too was proud to be a part of the March and to support the young people who are our leaders of tomorrow! The fact that so many people were willing and able to brave the terrible weather on Saturday confirms the widely- and deeply-held conviction that gun control MUST be tightened in the U.S.

THANK YOU to the organizers and the speakers!

I didn’t even know this Peoria march happened until just now; I found it on a link on another webpage. Was it covered on any other local media? (Thank you at this time, Community Word, but wondering if it was also on television or in the JS… perhaps I missed it).
